It\u2019s caused by pollen from grass, trees or weeds and is often worse in the warmer months when the pollen count is high.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It can affect adults and children, with symptoms including:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">sneezing and coughing<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a runny or blocked nose<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">itchy, red or watery eyes<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">itchy throat, mouth, nose and ears<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">loss of smell<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">pain around your temples and forehead<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">headache<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">earache<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">feeling tired<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Self-care<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is no cure for hay fever, and it can\u2019t be prevented, but there are things you can do to limit how much it affects you.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Staying indoors with the windows shut is a surefire way to avoid hay fever, but if you need to go outside, take some precautions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wrap-around sunglasses will protect your eyes, and putting Vaseline under your nostrils will trap pollen and stop you from breathing it in. Showering and changing your clothes when you return home will also get rid of any pollen on your body.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Generally, avoid grass, flowers and smoke, which can worsen the reaction.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Treatment from a Pharmacist<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The quickest way to get help with your hay fever is to visit your local community pharmacist.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/service-search\/pharmacy\/find-a-pharmacy\"><strong>Find your nearest Pharmacist<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">You don\u2019t need an appointment to see a pharmacist and may have longer opening hours than GP practices.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A Pharmacist will be able to give advice and suggest treatment for itchy, watery eyes, sneezing or a blocked nose. Antihistamine drops, tablets or nasal sprays can be bought over the counter without a prescription.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If treatment doesn\u2019t work<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If advice and medication from a Pharmacist don\u2019t make a difference, then you should contact us.\u00a0 A GP might prescribe a steroid treatment, often as a nasal spray.
